They sent Alonso out of the pits with a mismatched set of front tires. Luckily Fernando noticed partway down the pitlane and his mechanics could go out and fetch the car and fit the correct tires.

Perhaps this would work in nascar where you only turn left. Perhaps it biases the car toward making that turn a bit better, lol.

Oh, then I will give a bit more info. Didn't mean to be offensive if I came off that way. The right side tires are slightly larger at some tracks. The right and left compounds are different at every track (well almost every track, not road courses). And may have slightly different constructions too. I wish I could remember exactly, and I really should know the number, but I think there are around 26 different tires Goodyear has for one season.
